| Tomorrow is NFL Districts.
Not only do I personally feel a lot of anticipation, just because I know kind of what to expect but also have no idea, but also tomorrow will possibly be my last tournament. It marks the end of five cumulative years of speech tournaments, pieces, and friends. I told myself last year and I'm telling myself now- all I can do is my best. Cliche, I know, but seeing as how I'm not going to pursue theatre or acting of really any kind in college, this weekend may also be my last chance to speak publicly or act on such a scale for a very very long time.
Nearly everyone I associate with is part of the speech team, or was at some point. Much of the team that I have been with for these past two years will be united as a 'team' again only for tomorrow. Even if some go on to Nationals, certainly not all of us will. If anything, it's our last tournament together. I won't be seeing a lot of these people over the summer, and after that, we all go in different directions.
So for everyone anywhere competing tomorrow- do your best, have no regrets, and really do have fun.

| two movie reviews:
okay, so ace and i went to see---
The Hills Have Eyes
In case you don't know, this movie is about
a family (the Carters) going on a road trip to California via the New
Mexico desert. While travelling, they take a misguided shortcut and
fall into the trap of the hill people- those who were victims of the US
government's nuclear bomb testing in New Mexico in the 40s. They are
deformed and, pretty much, thirsty for blood. Very very creepy. Very
very scary. And not only was it exciting to watch, it was tension
driven and original. What I liked the most was that although they kept
the people of the hills mysterious for a while, they definitely let you
see them. I liked that there was a lot of interaction and dialogue
between the hill people and the travellers. Too many scary movies keep
the 'enemy' a secret and aloof for too long. Also, not only was it well
done visually, but the acting was good, too. I realize it was a
re-make, and I have yet to see the original, but this one was worth it.
Zathura
If
you've seen Jumanji, then you'll get that Zathura is practically the
same story except in outer-space. However, it was different in many
ways, and had added comedy as well as some touching moments, even
though overall it's a family-adventure type thing. The special effects
are awesome, the acting is what you would expect in a decent
family-adventure film, and the whole getting sucked into the world of a
boardgame idea isn't too overrun yet. Watch it.
and now for the English research proposal, government project, and who know's what else...

ps- Last night, I hit it and quit it with Sheri, Ray, Sheila, Brad, and
Katie. I'm only closely acquainted with Sheri and Sheila, but it was
lots of fun reading sheri's fifth grade American Girl-style diary and
watching Devil's Playground- a documentary about Amish teenagers.
